Fans and lovers of literature, here’s something to look forward to: the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) is bringing back the Performatura Festival happening from Apr. 5 to Apr. 7 at various venues in the CCP Main Building. The three-day event brings the spotlight to the “rich history of Philippine history, both the written word and oral traditions.”
According to the organizers, this year’s theme “Ang Mamatay Nang Dahil Sa Iyo” attempts to address “the issue of changing the last line of Philippine National Anthem through literature and performances” in response to Senate President Tito Sotto’s suggestion to change the last line to “ang ipaglaban ang kalayaan mo” last year.
Expect to see feature performances, poetry readings, literature classes, art talks, chanters from the regions, book discussions, slam poetry contest, film screenings, book fairs, art exhibits, and interviews with renowned writers.
While admission is technically free, guests are encouraged to bring a book which will serve as a whole day admission ticket. The organizers also noted that if you bring three books, you will be admitted to the event for three days, as well. The books will proceed to CCP’s partner libraries.
