The Philippines have seen a lot of foreign franchises coming into our shores in the last years—Michelin-starred restaurants even from our neighboring regions. But nothing quite beats this one that we discovered two years ago at a gasoline station in EDSA. Unlike these other roasts that boast authentic Hong Kong or Chinese cuisines, this local spot has roast goose.
[READ: Pork is the real winner on the Kam’s Roast menu]8 Treasures, since opening in 2017, has had a following particularly among the moneyed residents of Forbes and Dasma. One of the reasons is because while other chains are struggling to fly in goose from Hong Kong due to customs constraints, they have done the impossible through a very obvious-yet-hard-to-pull-off way: transporting goose through hand-carry luggage on a regular basis from Hong Kong to Manila. “Going to Hong Kong is like going to QC anyway,” one of the partners Monique Ordoñez was quoted in a feature we’ve done.
A lot has changed since that interview, though. Patrons in luxury cars no longer have to send their drivers to pick up their orders at the once lone branch (or so we think), as 8 Treasures has two new branches at Power Plant Mall and Santolan Town Plaza.
Opened less than a month apart, these two new branches have the same roster of roasted goods like lechon Macau, soy chicken, suckling pig, roast duck, HK white chicken, and charsiu pork, with a few additions like the crunchy shrimp balls.
8 Treasures is located at the lower ground floor of Power Plant Mall and at the ground floor of Santolan Town Plaza in San Juan.
