Missing Manang’s? We know where you can get their liempo

Remember Ateneo’s Manang’s? Better yet, do you remember their liempo? Apparently, there’s a new place in Ateneo where they’re still serving it.

July of last year, Atenean hearts everywhere broke when Manang’s, the carinderia beside the college covered courts finally called it quits after 27 years of service. The eatery closed because of Manang Puring’s declining health, and she actually passed away later that year. Her carinderia was beloved to Ateneans due to years of memories in the university and, more importantly, their liempo.

It looks like a trace of the beloved carinderia lives on, and it can be found in a relatively new restaurant in Ateneo called Ebai.

According to a Facebook post by Roy Tristan Agustin, a professor in the university, Ebai is the latest restaurant to take up residence in Cervini Hall, one of the dormitory buildings in the university compound. The professor discovered that Ebai originated from Baguio. He also found out that their branch in Cervini Hall is preserving the bestselling liempo from Manang’s by hiring the same person who grilled pork for Manang Puring of Manang’s.

To quote Agustin, “the liempo lives!”
