Craving buns, hun? Try some Korean cream cheese garlic bread

We miss traveling, and we miss having food trips even more. For the past six months, we’ve been thinking about all the famous restaurants we put on our must-visit lists, the hole-in-the-wall dining places that we accidentally stumble upon and the street food stalls that we just can’t walk away from.

We’re not alone in this though, because so many food trends that emerged this quarantine are inspired by our longing for travel. Take the Basque burnt cheesecake trend for example, which tried to suffice for the fact that we can’t visit the picturesque sights in Spain for now. Here’s another one rising (and filling everyone’s Instagram feeds) at the moment: The Korean cream cheese garlic bread.

This sweet and savory bun is a popular Korean street food stuffed with sweetened cream cheese and soaked in garlic butter sauce. It’s a bit on the sweeter side thanks to the cream cheese, and it perfectly balances a crunchy exterior and soft and chewy interior. You can pair it with your favorite pasta dish or a steaming cup of coffee—or enjoy it on its own.

Korean cream cheese garlic bread is fairly easy to bake. Most tutorials online will teach you how to make it from scratch, but you can also use ready-made white dinner rolls if making your own bread is too much work for you.

Alternatively, you can buy Korean cream cheese garlic bread from several local bakeries as well.

Panaderya Toyo

While not exactly Korean cream cheese garlic bread, this garlic putok made of sourdough from Panaderya Toyo is somehow a “local twist” to this food trend.
