Pinoy theater fans, the Cultural Center of the Philippines has a special treat for you. The storied theater will be hosting “Musikal II” on Sept. 10 at the Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo theater in celebration of its 53rd anniversary. The musical revue will feature vignettes of performances from original Filipino musicals staged from 2015 up to 2021.
Some of the musicals you can expect to see are Eraserheads jukebox musical hit “Ang Huling El Bimbo,” the stage version of the 2017 film “Ang Larawan,” graphic novel-turned one-act play-turned hit musical “Kung Paano Ako Naging Leading Lady,” and many more.
Performances from other popular shows will also be featured throughout the evening, namely from the following musicals: “Binondo: A Tsinoy Musical,” “A Game of Trolls,” “Dekada ’70,” “Aurelio Sedisyoso,” “Adarna,” “Ding, ang Bato,” “F(r)iction,” “Changing Partners,” “Awitin Mo at Isasayaw Ko,” “Guadalupe: The Musical,” “Felix Starro,” “Lapu-Lapu: Ang Datu ng Mactan,” “Himala,” “Eto na! Musical nAPO!,” “Mabining Mandirigma,” and “Kanser @ 35.”
There’s no word yet on whether we’ll see original cast members from each show reprising their roles for the CCP stage, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed.
While the event is invite only, the CCP will be releasing a limited number of tickets that are free and open to the public. The catch is, they’ll only be releasing these tickets two hours before showtime at the main ramp, and there’s no way to secure a specific seat or section.
For more information, you can visit the CCP’s Facebook page.
Best of luck, theatergoers!
