Have falafel 4 ways at this new Mediterranean grab-and-go in BGC

BGC is sort of having a food revolution. In an industry that’s always playing musical chairs, the challenge to make it count (at least until it lasts) is a constant nagging feeling and yet seldom fulfilled.

In a market saturated with diverse conceptshigh- or low-brow, local or internationalseldom do we see a really fresh one. And by this, we mean literally fresh. The kind that’s made before your very eyes, from scratch, and without the long waiting time.

Enter Medley: Modern Mediterranean, the newest player at Bonifacio High Street. Once a humble stall in the Legazpi Sunday market, it is set to open a grab-and-go shop for BGC’s busy but health-conscious crowd.

Guilt-Free Greek Salad

David Tweg, who’s behind the concept, is an Israeli who along with his father put up a 24/7 falafel shop in El Nido, Palawan. A believer in the health benefits of a Mediterranean diet having grown with it, Tweg might as well be sharing a piece of the elusive “fountain of youth.” Or health at least.

But that is not to say that it is all greens and salads for just vegetarians and vegans. For those who may find themselves looking for familiar tastes, Medley serves beef and chicken in  bowl, sandwich, and pizza form. Be sure to try out their beef kofte, a Turkish version. We suggest you try it first as a bowl with their silky hummus and your choice of salad.

“I think Filipinos who already love Mediterranean cuisine will enjoy the authentic tastes of our beef kofte topped on their choice of salad, Mediterranean rice, or hummus,” Tweg suggests.

Levantine Chicken Bowl

“Those who are still a bit unfamiliar with our food can start with our offerings that feature more familiar flavors like the seared tuna sashimi and our pizzas.”

Medley prides itself in using only fresh ingredients sourced from local farms, served and made without preservatives or artificial flavoring.

For vegans and vegetarians, Mediterranean cuisine itself has a lot of possibilities from salads, hummus, baba ganoush, and tabbouleh, a salad originating from Levant with parsley, tomatoes, onion, and bulgur, seasoned with drizzled with olive oil and lemon juice.

They take it a notch higher by letting customers have their own pick of ingredients, sides, and sauces among other customizable options. So diners can opt, for example, for rice, hummus, or pita bread to go with their order.

Medley: Modern Mediterranean opens Jan. 26, Saturday at B6 Bonifacio High Street.
