You can now watch the revolutionary West End musical at the comfort of your own home as the star-studded “Les Misérables” concert production recording is released digitally for charity this Apr. 20.
Available for download at £9.99 (approximately P632), every purchase of the recording will enable the Mackintosh Foundation to separately donate £5.00, which will be split among three charities. This includes Acting for Others, the Musicians Union Coronavirus Hardship Fund and Captain Tom Moore’s Walk for the NHS fund.
“I am delighted that Universal Pictures Home Entertainment Content Group is releasing ‘Les Misérables – The Staged Concert’ as a digital download at this time of crisis as it also allows my Foundation to help raise much-needed funds for particular charities that are under such pressure at the moment,” its producer, Cameron Mackintosh, said.
Earlier in December 2019, the concert was aired in cinemas as well. Aside from the performances, the recording will also include a specially created mini-documentary “Bringing it Home.” This features never-before-seen backstage footage, as well as clips of the production’s cast at their homes talking about their experiences in acting both on live theater and on the show itself.
The digital download for “Les Misérables – The Staged Concert” will also contain performances by stars who took part in the musical when it ran at the Gielgud Theatre last 2019. These include Alfie Boe, Michael Ball, Carrie Hope Fletcher, Matt Lucas, Katy Secombe, John Owen-Jones, Shan Ako, Lily Kerhoas, Rob Houchen and Bradley Jaden, among others.
“In these extraordinary times, we hope that fans and everyone who loves the theatre will be reminded of how special a theatrical experience can be, going to the very heart of our British culture, which make our nation so special and unique. I am exceptionally proud of everyone involved in the making of the Concert and very much hope my Foundation will be able to help raise a considerable amount of money for these deserving charities,” said Mackintosh.
Aside from raising funds through the digital downloads of “Les Misérables – The Staged Concert,” Mackintosh has also donated £100,000 from his foundation.
“Les Misérables – The Staged Concert” will be available on Sky Store, Amazon and iTunes Store, which you can also check out through this link.
