“Some People Need Killing: A Memoir of Murder in My Country” author Patricia Evangelista is coming home this April. “I’ll be home this April, to tell a story about a war that happened where we lived. It’s a story we all know, but it needs to be told again and again,” she said in an Instagram post.

Starting April 11 at the University of the Philippines Diliman, Evangelista will be on a book tour, where she will be joining institutions and universities to listen, tell stories, sign books, take questions, and be in conversation with guests like journalist Atom Araullo, historian Ambeth Ocampo, broadcaster Ces Drilon, and multi-awarded writer Butch Dalisay.

The book tour covers the whole month of April and will take Evangelista to various universities, cultural institutions, and organizations around Manila, Baguio, and Cebu. There will be a total of 12 stops from April 11 to 29. All events are for free but pre-registration is required. Event information including registration links can be found on Evangelista’s website.

Her acclaimed book, released in October last year, recounts the bloody drug war waged by former President Rodrigo Duterte through the stories of lives lost, families left behind, and the failure and complicity of the government.

In 2023, The New York Times named her book one of the ten best books of the year. It was also included in TIME Magazine’s 100 must-read books of 2023 and longlisted for the 2024 Women’s Prize for Non-Fiction. In February, it was announced that the book is a finalist for The New York Public Library’s Helen Bernstein Book Award for Excellence in Journalism.
