The OPM scene is thriving both locally and internationally. In fact, Spotify said that “OPM has reached 10 billion streams, with listeners in the Philippines as well as in the immigrant communities of Singapore, the United States and Hong Kong” last year. However, the pandemic has been an obstacle to various musicians as live gigs, which are part of the ways they earn money and gather more fans, are deemed impossible at this time.

While some have started doing online events in order to help artists keep on making music, Quezon City’s indie artsy café Jess & Pat’s has brewed a unique way to support the local indie scene.

Teaming up with Marilag Records, the café launched a special bottled coffee blend collection called Indie Brew. With names that take after the titles of songs from bands Munimuni, The Ridleys and Kamara, the drinks come in four flavors: Americano, latte, salted caramel and mocha. The Indie Brew menu also has two special fruit milks—strawberry and mango—for those who don’t like coffee.

These bottled drinks are available in two packages. The indie coffee trio, which consists of two large and one medium-sized coffee-based drinks, costs P350. Meanwhile, the Marilag care kit, which consists of one large special fruit milk and two large and one medium-sized coffee-based drinks, costs P500.

Twenty percent of each purchase goes to Marilag Records, who will be using it to support the three bands under their care. Jess & Pat’s also uses locally-sourced coffee and fruits only for their drinks, which means you’d be helping local farmers with every purchase, too.
