Theater productions to watch this April

  • April weekends are packed with shows to watch

Revenge theater is on. Just this month alone, we have six productions running for the remaining three weekends. That’s more than enough time to squeeze in a show or two per weekend. 

Here are the shows you can catch this month—and better hurry getting those tickets because they’re running out quick!

Walang Aray

The Spanish era-set comedy musical resumes their run this month.

Breakups & Breakdowns

Upstart Productions

April 15 to 23

This original musical comedy, with book and lyrics written by Joel Trinidad and music by Rony Fortich, explores the ups and downs of modern dating and relationships. It stars Tanya Manalang-Atadero, Reb Atadero, Sarah Facuri, Nelsito Gomez, Rachel Coates, Joel Trinidad, and Nicky Triviño.

DickTalk

V-Roll Media Ventures
RCBC Theater, Makati
April 15 to 23

Inspired by the play “The Vagina Monologues,” V-Roll Media’s “DickTalk” is a play this time from the male perspective, tackling issues about manhood. It features five characters representing stories of men from different ages and backgrounds. It stars Jake Cuenca, Gold Aceron, Mikoy Morales, Archi Adamos, and Nil Nodamo.

Nekropolis

Tanghalang Pilipino
Tanghalang Ignacio Gimenez Black Box Theater, CCP Complex, Pasay
April 20 to 23

Created by Guelan Varela-Luarca, Charles Yee, Soc Amon, and the Tanghalang Pilipino Actors Company, “Nekropolis” explores the dynamics of a dystopian Philippine society. The experimental piece is called a “dulambayanihan” for its collaborative nature. 

La Boheme

Viva Voce Voice Lab
Mirror Studio, Makati
April 21, 28, and 30

A modern, minimalist take on the Puccini opera will be staged by Viva Voce Voice Lab. According to TheaterFansManila, this version directed by Nelsito Gomez will be set in a time closer to the modern day, 1960s Paris, instead of the original 1840s.

April 21 onwards
