Acclaimed Indian chef Gaggan Anand announced the impending closure of his restaurant Gaggan in Bangkok. Since its opening in 2010, it’s the only Indian restaurant to have been on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list, placing 10th in 2015, fifth in 2018, and fourth this year. Gaggan was also the Asia’s Best winner for four consecutive years, bagging the award from 2015 to 2018.
The chef made the announcement through a letter posted on his Instagram account, explaining his current situation. Anand cites a legal notice from one of the restaurant’s major share holders that prevented him from posting any updates about Gaggan on social media that could be viewed as defamation.
Despite this closure, Anand asks his customers to remain optimistic and look forward to his future venture. “My team, my family will be working and building a place with love and live in [a] happy environment and forward that positive energy to all of you who have supported and cared for us,” his Instagram post reads.
Gaggan closes on Aug. 24.
