On Jan. 12, Taal Volcano began spewing ash and smoke in a phreatic eruption due to hydro-thermal activities. The volcano generated a kilometer-high ash column that can be seen from a distance, which severely affected towns around the volcano.

Earlier today, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) placed Taal Volcano under Alert Level 4, meaning an eruption is possible within days. In the middle of all this, organizations have called out for donations and relief efforts to help residents affected by Taal Volcano’s activity.

What used to be lush scenery has been blanketed by ash.Trees bent over by heavy ash. Streets are isolated, establishments closed, eerie silence all over. Military and police were cordoning the area, urging people to safer grounds. The harsh reality is that there were animals left behind. We gave them food, even left a whole sack by the road for the strays. We took home one dog with us and hopefully get the brown one tomorrow. Traversing the evacuation area, we picked up a tiny bird frantically flapping its wings, burdened by ash. We are trying to save whatever living creature we could, but we can't do it on our own. Please help us. Your donations will go a long way. We are coordinating with the government so we could access the hardest hit areas. We want to go despite the risks, coz help is pouring in for people, but what about the animals? Anyone who has trucks, 4x4s, huge animal kennels, leashes? We need an area to safely contain them. We would also appreciate donation of syringes, saline solutions, ocular lubricants (systane or cellufresh), wet wipes, goggles, and paper plates or disposable food containers to place the food (not the styro/plastic ones sorry. our planet is hurting already) All your donations would make a significant impact to the animal population of Taal. Let's all work together, let us be the voice of these creatures, whether they be domestic or companion animals. All lives matter. Their lives matter too.
