Today, we’re commemorating our 119th Independence Day. It’s the celebration of our flag and our freedom from the Spaniards.
Today is also a non-working holiday. Instead of staying in bed all day, here are some activities that you can do today.
Watch a film
Standalone movie theater Cinema ’76 is showing Jerrold Tarog’s Heneral Luna and Enzo Williams’ Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo for free. If you still have some spare time today, you can also catch Jerrold Tarog’s controversial film Bliss and JP Habac’s I’m Drunk I Love You. They will also screen Dominic Nuesa’s Ang Araw sa Likod Mo for the benefit of Hero Foundation.
Visit a museum
While you have time in your hands, visit the National Museum. The story of national treasure manunggul jar, which dates back to 890 B.C to 710 B.C., is enough reason to visit the museum.
Get a new book
Adarna House is releasing a series of books on historical figures today. The series includes Ang Maraming Ngalan ni Emilio, Ang Kaibigan Kong si Mabini, and Ang Lakambini at Ako. These books will be launched at the Gateway Gallery at a discounted price of P110.

Have you ever wondered how to spell your name with Baybayin? Well, this is your chance to learn the basics of our indigenous alphabet. The Book Stop at Plaza Roma, Intramuros will hold a Baybayin workshop from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. After the workshop, you can watch a balagtasan and open mic poetry.
After all those Independence Day activities, take the LRT-1 home. They’re offering a free ride from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
