The Veggie drop-off, a recently organized pop-up vegetable market, announced that it will be having a counterpart venue in Quezon City Memorial Circle this weekend, Mar. 7-8.
The event aims to solve the growing struggle of farmers in La Trinidad, Benguet to make a stable living from their crops due to limited accessibility to city markets and the nCOV-2019 epidemic. .
Last weekend,Feb. 28- Mar. 1, we saw the Veggie drop-off’s first run at the Old Manila Eco Market where they brought roughly 4,000 kg of vegetables straight from the Mountain Province to Manila sold at significantly lower prices compared to that of usual of grocery stores (broccoli for P 70?). Here, they were able to attract 1,500 buyers and consequently, sold out all the produce they’ve brought despite the long lines and scorching heat.
While the event will still be coming back for a second run at the Old Manila Market in Luneta this weekend (Mar. 6-7), on Saturday to Sunday (Mar. 7-8 ) you can also find a counterpart bazaar with the same prices and intentions at the Quezon City Fresh Market at the Quezon City Memorial Circle.

The Quezon City venue will be facilitated by the QC Small Business and Cooperatives Development Promotions Office. Expect vegetables like cabbage, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and lettuce to name a few at lowest possible prices from Lhove Igorot Veggies & co. from Bauko and Mt. Province. Rice Pinas!, another non-profit volunteer organization supporting rice farmers, will also be selling a wide-variety of rice at very affordable prices.
Event organizers remind buyers to bring their own bags for shopping as they will not be providing paper bags for free. Though, they encourage donating paper bags, used but clean plastic bags and ecobags that can be dropped off at the site during the event.
A strict one to two kilos per vegetable per person limit will be implemented so they could accommodate as many customers as possible.
