Thirty-seven years and many special occasions later, Shangri-La Finest Chinese Cuisine Restaurant in Quezon City is permanently closing its doors this August.

Through a Facebook post, the Chinese restaurant thanked their customers and clients who have been enjoying their services since 1981 with a short video montage of celebrations and special milestones that happened in the restaurant.

Among the featured snapshots in the montage were photos of Pope John Paul II at the restaurant when they served him during his visit to the country in 1995 for World Youth Day.

“So it is with great sadness that we are announcing that effective August 1, Shangri-La Finest Chinese Cuisine will cease its operations, due for the most part to the challenges brought about by the on-going pandemic, which has plagued not only our country, but the entire world as well,” wrote the restaurant’s management.

According to the announcement, the iconic restaurant will only carry out dine-in and take out services until July 31.

“Shangri-La Finest Chinese Cuisine’s Management and its employees will be praying for everyone’s safety in this current situation of COVID-19 pandemic,” wrote the management as the restaurant signs off for good.

Aside from being a Chinese dining restaurant, Shangri-La Finest Chinese Cuisine also served as a venue for wedding receptions, family reunions and birthday parties. Its Chinese New Year celebrations also became a tradition for both customers and employees.
