In case you didn’t know, October is Museums and Galleries Month. Even though we can’t visit those spaces yet, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) is making it possible for us to safely celebrate.
The theme of this year’s Museums and Galleries Month is “engaging exhibitions for emerging generations.” Their theme stems from the transformative effect galleries and museums have on future generations and how they can shape the future.
According to their website, the online events and exhibitions they’ll be hosting will “highlight the issues of interpretation, exhibition design and visitor experience.”
The theme may sound like quite a feat (since most of us are still sequestered in our homes), but the NCCA is making this possible through a series of webinars and workshops for both the public and professionals working in the museum industry.
Upcoming Events
The organizers behind Museums and Galleries Month, in partnership with the Alliance of Greater Manila Area Museums and Gateway Gallery, have put together a webinar to educate those of us who are interested in learning more about these institutions. It will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays through the month of October at 10 a.m.
For professionals in the museum and gallery industry, there will also be a summit that tackles the future and direction of these cultural landmarks. Entitled “A Call to Transform: Manila Museums Summit 2020,” their goal is “to cultivate a critical understanding on the directions museums are moving towards and the strategies implemented by different institutions in adapting to these precarious times.”
This month’s celebrations also shine the spotlight on Mindanao’s creative community. Mindanao Art will be showcasing the works of different creatives from across the region, alongside world-renowned artists. Their “Living Art in New Landscape” exhibit can be viewed online through Mindanao Art’s website for two weeks starting Oct. 21.
