Theater fans, here’s an early Christmas treat: There’s a new musical heading to our screens this holiday season from Repertory Philippines (REP).
To cap off 2021, REP Theatre for Young Audiences (RTYA) is streaming “The Great Christmas Cookie Bake-off!”—a musical set within a reality baking competition. Category is: Christmas cookies. It also happens to be the first Filipino production set to be streamed internationally on Broadway On Demand, according to REP.
The story follows eight young cookie chefs from all over the country, who are each taking a shot at the grand prize. And as all reality competitions go, the young chefs undergo the scrutiny of three celebrity judges. What makes it a sweet (and family-appropriate) story is how it shows that intense rivalry can give way to charity, family, and forgiveness.
“The Great Christmas Cookie Bake-off!” is directed by RTYA creative director Joy Virata, and features actors Becca Coates, Tim Pavino, Jep Go, Jillian Itaas, Luigi Quesada, Rachel Coates, Justine Narciso, Steven Hotchkiss, Carla Guevara Laforteza, Jamie Wilson, Arnel Carrion, and Hans Eckstein.
The musical’s creative team also includes set designer Ed Lacson, lighting designer John Batalla, costume designer Bonsai Cielo, and choreographer Deana Aquino. The video production is also led by multi-awarded director Treb Monteras.
It will stream internationally on Broadway On Demand from November 12 to December 12. Tickets are priced at P700 (Regular) for 24-hour access to the show and P1,000 (Family/Household, for multiple viewer access) for 48-hour access to the show. Aside from Broadway On Demand, tickets will also be available via TicketWorld and Ticket2Me.
While we wait, may we interest you in some cookie recipes? Or perhaps ready-to-bake dough? Or just watch someone else make cookies. (As for me, I’m going to go “perfect” my classic chocolate chip, thanks.)
