Be careful next time you park your vehicles in unauthorized parking spaces. In a new resolution published in two dailies on Dec. 12, the Metro Manila Development Authority will be imposing illegal parking fines for unattended vehicles from P500 to P2,000.
But not just that, car owners who stay inside or near their illegally parked cars are also not exempt from Regulation No. 18-008 as attended vehicles can be fined anywhere from P200 to P1,000.
The fines for attended and unattended used to be P200 and P500, respectively. The regulation which was approved by MMDA’s policy-making body Metro Manila Council composed of Metro Manila mayors will also impose a P1,000 fine for vehicles found to be “obstructing public roads.”
MMDA’s legislative and legal affairs officer-in-charge, Crisanto Saruca also clarified that violators can be fined up to twice a day, with a three-hour interval meaning repeat violators can be charged as much as P4,000 a day.
The traffic agency also lifts their previous pronouncement in August regarding the no-towing policy on illegally parked cars. In the new resolution which will take effect today, both unattended and attended illegally parked vehicles “may still be subject to towing and impounding as the circumstances may warrant.”
Saruca said that the measure is intended to instill traffic discipline among Metro Manila motorists.
