German chocolate maker Ritter Sport’s latest flavor is… hummus?

Chocolates are universally loved treats, as in a person can count with their 10 fingers the number of people they know who don’t like this cacao-derived sweet.

German chocolate brand Ritter Sport, however, seems to want to test out just how far people are willing to go with their chocolate snacking habit. In a recent Facebook post, the manufacturer revealed that its new flavor will have the Middle Eastern staple hummus.

Yes, you’ve read that right. Hummus, as in the creamy mashed chickpea dish. Confused fans are commenting on the post expressing their bewilderment with some even asking if it is a late April Fool’s joke.

According to the post, this flavor, which falls under their line Ultimate Snacking Edition contains chunky chickpeas, smooth tahini and sweet chocolate.

But are we really surprised? The same manufacturer came out with a chocolate bar flavored with hemp a few years ago on 4/20 aka cannabis/weed/grass holiday. It is a limited edition product, which despite its controversial choice of ingredient is legal in many countries regardless of existing marijuana laws because apparently, even if it comes from the cannabis plant, hemp can’t make you high.

Ritter Sport has yet to reveal when the hummus-flavored chocolate bar will be released. Then again, it might be a part of their #RitterSportFake social media “initiative” where they mockup outrageous flavors like celery juice for April Fool’s Day last year and Sauerkraut—as in the German fermented cabbage. An intern is getting fired if that’s the case.

Then again Nestle in Japan made soy sauce– and miso soup-flavored KitKat chocolate. So maybe a savory-sweet combination isn’t that far out after all? You be the judge.
