Try using spice-infused syrup in your sangria

You can enjoy this sweet and fruity concoction any time of the year

1 orange

1 lemon

1 apple

1 pack strawberries

1 pack red grapes

1 pack mint leaves

Red wine

Soda water (optional)


For the syrup

Brown sugar


Star anise

Cinnamon stick


  1. Slice oranges and apples into preferred shape (wedges or small cubes are fine).
  2. Slice grapes and strawberries into small cubes.
  3. Slice lemon in half.
  4. Pour red wine into a pitcher or carafe.
  5. Put all sliced fruits into the pitcher. Squeeze lemon juice before putting lemon into the pitcher.
  6. Mix in syrup.
  7. Optional: Add soda water for fizz.
  8. Top with mint.
  9. Mix the drink, and leave in the refrigerator to cool.

To make the syrup:

  1. Combine one part brown sugar with one part water in a saucepan or pot. Mix in star anise and cinnamon stick.
  2. Stir the mixture until it reaches a boil, or until the sugar dissolves completely.

Note: A thin syrup is preferred for this sangria recipe.
