Grab PH halts car services, resumes food and delivery operations

Grab resumes its operations of GrabFood ad GrabExpress after the Department of Trade and Industry gave food delivery services a go signal amid the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon.

In a statement Grab said, “The decision was made to support the food establishments that will continue to operate and maintain continuous flow of goods to serve the essential needs of Filipinos during these trying times.”

Earlier today, following the government implementation of Luzon-wide community quarantine, Grab Philippines has temporarily stopped its operations such as GrabCar, GrabFood, GrabExpress and GrabTrike on Tuesday until further notice.

“To safeguard communities from COVID-19, we are temporarily pausing GrabCar, GrabFood, and GrabExpress operations in Luzon from March 17 until further notice,” read the multi-service app’s statement.

Last week, Grab Philippines stopped its GrabShare operations in Manila and Cebu to help implement social distancing measures amid the rising number of confirmed cases.

“We are one with the government in combating the viral spread, and are working with the different government agencies to find ways to continue serving the needs of Filipinos during these times,” said its statement on its Facebook page.

Similarly, food delivery service FoodPanda has stopped operations.

President Duterte has placed Luzon Monday night under enhanced community quarantine, suspending mass public transportation and restricting land, air and sea travel.

As of writing, there are over 140 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country.
