Will an Honesty Bus work in Manila?

A bus ride is never truly complete without the conductors who roam what little aisle space there is to get your fare–not to mention their dandy ticket pad and the hole puncher (some already have a digital receipt issuer, I know).

Well, all that’s about to change as the first Honesty Bus begins its operations tomorrow. The special bus which runs without a conductor or any fare-collecting personnel by G. Liner traverses through Taytay, Rizal to Quiapo and passes by Cainta, Ortigas, San Juan, and Manila Areas.

In place of a conductor, there is instead a tin can dropbox where passengers need to pay the exact amount as fare. Think BGC and Beep card-supported buses where you just tap your card and go, but old-school.

Some Facebook users who saw the post are already adamant about the idea, saying some people might get away with not paying at all given the honesty system.

G. Liner also collated a fare matrix so bus riders can just drop the exact amount as there will be no one to facilitate the issuance of change.

What do you think about this Honest Bus?
