From its design to its beadwork, embroidery and fabric, these modern Filipiniana pieces proudly bear a part of our rich culture on its (literal) sleeves.
Filip + Inna, a local label by designer Len Cabili, now carries on its website various pieces by young designers who participated in the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and the clothing brand Bench’s terno-making convention and contest TernoCon 2020.

Held last January at the Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo in the CCP Main Theater, TernoCon 2020 was the follow-up to the successful first run of the terno making convention and contest in 2018. Its aim was to promote terno as “a popular form of formal dress” and engaging young designers in giving it a contemporary reimagination.
This year, the competition had a total of 13 finalists, among them are Hannah Adrias, Krizia Jimenez, Jaggy Glarino, CJ Martin and Dinnes Obusan, whose designed pieces you can now take home via Filip + Inna.

Among the pieces available for purchase are the Guita terno tops by Jimenez and the Banaag Solihiya shirt by Glarino, which you can easily mix and match with shorts, skirts or pants for a casual look.
The Fina terno jacket in denim made by designer Hannah Adrias, who won the competition with her incorporation of utilitarian elements into the traditional Filipiniana silhouette. Made of cotton denim, Adrias gives the terno sleeves a rugged look with the use of distressed denim.

“Filip + Inna’s mission is to create while also reviving – even preserving – Filipino traditions that are in danger of becoming lost and being forgotten. We work with many groups of talented artisans across the archipelago, giving them an opportunity to continue practicing their traditional craft while improving their livelihood,” states the brand on its website.
They work with artisans from a total of 19 tribes, including Tingguian, Ifugao, Maranao, Manobo-obo, Bagobo, Mangyan and T’boli, in bringing each ready-to-wear clothing piece to life. Assuring a truly and distinctly local touch in every aspect, all garments are created from fabric supplied, beadwork made and embroideries carefully crafted by the label’s local partners.
