We all grew up thinking that a glass of fresh milk a day makes for strong bones. You probably remember the Got Milk campaigns from the ’90s and ’00s with famous personalities sporting milk mustaches encouraging you to drink up your daily dose of cow’s milk.
These days, cow’s milk and other dairy products don’t enjoy the same amount of celebrity. The mainstream dairy industry’s dark side has shown its face, revealing cramped and inhumane conditions for cows. Also, an estimated two-thirds of the world’s population is lactose intolerant, which means milk isn’t as good for everyone as we were made to believe.
So if you’re vegan, lactose intolerant or just want to stop drinking dairy, here are some locally made oat and nut-based milk alternatives:
Oatmade
Most alternative milk products are made from nuts. If you’re allergic to nuts, oat milk could probably work for you. Oatmade sells dairy, nut, gluten and preservative-free vegan oat milk. They have different types of oat milk, like unsweetened (P200), sweetened (P215), cocoa (P220) and matcha (P235). They use blue agave nectar as their sweetener and matcha and cocoa powder for their flavored milk. Each bottle lasts for about three to five days if stored properly.

Their almond and cashew milk costs P220 and their oat milk is P200. All three preservative-free products weigh in at 500 ml. and come in reusable glass bottles.

Blend & Press
Blend & Press sells almond and oat milk in different variations. For their almond milk, you can have it unsweetened, naturally sweetened or cacao flavored. Their oat milk is made from rolled oats and comes in classic, naturally sweetened and cacao flavored. They use raw cacao powder as the flavor component for their cacao drink and Medjool dates as their sweetener. Their preservative-free milk lasts three to four days upon receipt and starts at P145 for the oat milk and P245 for their almond milk.

It’s Nut Milk!
As their cute and punny name suggests, It’s Nut Milk focuses on making nut-based milk alternatives. They have both plain and sweetened almond and cashew milk, as well as a coconut cashew flavored milk. Their sweetened milk also comes in a vanilla sweetened version for vanilla enthusiasts. Their milk comes in 1 liter and 500 ml. glass bottles. Their prices start at P195 for the 500 ml. bottles and P340 for the 1 liter bottles.
