  • Kulfi is a dense, sweet traditional Indian and Pakistani dessert that’s been made since the 16th century. Now, you can keep it in your freezer

If you’re a fan of cold sweets, you’re going to want to try this ice cream. Indian restaurant Swagat has released a pint version of kulfi, a traditional Indian and Pakistani ice cream made with evaporated milk, pistachios and almonds.

According to Swagat’s website, kulfi is “a traditional Indian ice cream AKA a creamier and smoother version of the Western ice cream you’re used to!  It’s a mixture of dense evaporated milk usually flavored with pistachios and almonds. It’s frozen, delicious, and actually more dense than regular ice cream, so it’ll take longer to melt. This means more time for you to savor every single bite of smooth, creamy, goodness!”

Kulfi most likely originated from the Northern Indian region in the 16th century. These cold treats are traditionally made with ingredients like pistachio, saffron, mango, rose, vanilla and cardamom. Swagat’s version is made with almonds, cashews and pistachio.

This 16th century ice cream isn’t the only interesting offering on Swagat’s menu. Aside from this frozen treat, it also has a large selection of traditional Indian fare like aloo poori, a classic North Indian breakfast made with spiced, sautéed potatoes and unleavened bread, as well as samosas, different types of biryani, a variety of paneer, and staple Indian drinks like chai and lassi.

Each pint of kulfi retails for P500 and is best consumed within a week of opening. You can place your orders through Swagat’s website.
