Despite the rise of gaming consoles, the appeal of arcade games persists. Hello? Who hasn’t impulsively purchased a Nintendo Switch while in quarantine? Or planned to get the latest PlayStation model?
And how else explain the mixed demographics of a mall gaming center? Or the fact that a prepaid game card is among the prized items in a grownup’s wallet?
Sadly, the arcade with its very tactile experience and communal consoles and machines with buttons and steering canes is not exactly the best place to be amid the COVID-19 crisis.
Fortunately for nostalgic gamers out there, there’s a Quezon City shop that sells arcade game machines—yes, the whole thing including the gaming program down to the coin slot mechanism!
Eighties Arcade specializes in imported coin-operated, cabinet-standing arcade machines.
Some of their offerings include a standard six-foot machine with over 2,000 games, a 60-in-1 cocktail arcade, and a digital table pinball with 200+ themes. Each comes in a variety of designs based on your favorite game.
And speaking of games, do any of these titles ring a bell: Pacman, Galaga, Tekken, NBA Jam, Donkey Kong, Super Mario Brothers, Street Fighter, Mortal Combat, and Contra? These are just some of the 2,600 games available when you buy any of the machines.
If you’re worried about running out of coins to play, just set the machine on free play!
Eighties Arcades originally markets these games for modern-day offices, bars and game rooms. But with everyone staying indoors, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t get one for your home.
Prices range from P85,000 for a four-foot machine to P215,000 for digital pinball. The machines come with a one year warranty on parts and home service, as well as free delivery within Metro Manila.
You can also check out its showroom by appointment at Sct. Chuatoco, Quezon City. Eighties Arcades can be reached at 0917-8901200 on Viber.
