South Korea has been on top of the trend game these days—may it be for music, movies, fashion or food (remember Dalgona coffee?). Now, it has introduced yet another trend: the minimalist cakes recently decorating everyone’s Instagram feeds.
Appealing to the eyes despite its simple designs, these minimalist cakes bear a touch of sophistication with its clean look. Even international publications are raving about this pastry trend, noting that it’s “a design style that appeals even to staunch maximalists.” While some of these cakes go for the strict plain look, others bear decorations such as fancy letterings or illustrations, but still with a minimalist aesthetic.
Los Angeles-based shop Mackerelcake has also been sharing tips and tutorials not just on making and frosting minimalist cakes, but also on making the intricate decorations and letterings. The cute designs they upload on their channel are tempting us to start making our own minimalist cakes too, to be honest.
